Graphical interfaces by definition don't have a chance to communicate with each other, but I'd argue nowadays we have quite strong import/export functionality everywhere, so this problem disappears in most cases. On another note, you're also stuck with defaults if you happen to use a badly written CLI (takes input from files only, etc).
