These “hacktivists” are simply left-wing criminals that need to be brought to justice by three-letter agencies. Just like we have seen with the aggressive, militant actions of decentralized anonymous groups (antifa, youth collectives, etc) in the physical world, these criminals don’t want to allow any speech or thought that disagrees with their own. Hence their attacks on Parler, Epik, and so on. Let’s not try to paint their actions in some virtuous paint of activism. These criminals have no place in a lawful society that holds liberal values.

- blockmarker 5y agoThey will never be brought to justice, since they are another arm of the state. These groups are a way of doing what the powers that be want to be done while having some plausible deniability. These groups are deliberately allowed to do this.

- jasonvorhe 5y agoThe super incompetent state is also the super powered villain operating in the dark. That way you're always right with your conspiracy delusions.
- sudosysgen 5y agoYou can be very incompetent and also be very powerful. It's quite easy when you have the powers of the state. I don't agree with the comment you were replying to either, it's just that I don't really find this argument convincing.
- mrtesthah 5y agoYou don't have to find it convincing; it's merely an observation on the way fascists communicate with each other. https://www.faena.com/aleph/umberto-eco-a-practical-list-for-identifying-fascists https://www.faena.com/aleph/umberto-eco-a-practical-list-for... >8. The enemy is both weak and strong. “[…] the followers must be convinced that they can overwhelm the enemies. Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
- sudosysgen 5y agoWell, for fascists it's often true because they choose enemies that are actually simply weak (as having shadowy enemies that can be portrayed as both weak and strong is necessary for fascism). The state is not weak at all, and it is indeed often incompetent. I think your argument is simply overfitting.
- Proven 5y ago> These criminals have no place in a lawful society that holds liberal values. Of course. But now you have to be downvoted almost to oblivion (which gives us an idea of just how liberal our downvoting HN liberals are).

- mrtesthah 5y agoThe funniest part is that Epik's sites host literal terrorist content. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParlerWatch/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ParlerWatch/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Daily_Stormer#Content_and_style https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Daily_Stormer#Content_and_...
- jasonvorhe 5y agoYour rhetoric is straight out of the new right's playbook so I won't waste anyone's time asking for any source to your outlandish claims. Your free to "think" whatever you want, you're free to publish your propaganda but not without opposition: Left-ish people are among the most tolerant people your can find, unless you tolerate intolerance. That's a hard line. You're against bodily autonomy for women? You're against consenting adults doing whatever they feel like in their own home? You don't want adults who love each other to do so without discrimination? Well, you're on the wrong side of history, if any of these seem offending to you. If abortions, homosexuality, being trans aren't lawful, you can claim liberal values all you want, but you're nothing but an activist for a new wave of fascists. If your idea of the left had any merit, the left would counter protest at any rally you can think of. Instead, they protest those who preach intolerance.
- throwawaysea 5y ago> you're free to publish your propaganda but not without opposition Not without illegal criminal acts you mean? You’re using euphemisms to excuse authoritarian actions by anti free speech digital thugs. > Left-ish people are among the most tolerant people your can find, unless you tolerate intolerance. That's a hard line. I’m sure this moral certainty sounds virtuous to you, but it is simply intolerant in the end. The use of malleable and subjective opinions as purity tests doesn’t make you right and doesn’t make these criminal actions ethical or moral.
- jasonvorhe 5y agore: Opposition: My reply to your comment. re: Purity tests: lol
- 1_player 5y agoThe fascist and Neo-nazi have have lost their platform. Cry me a river. How will we cope? Funny how in a few decades the USA went from being proud for kicking Hitler's ass during WW2 to being at the (storm)front of the Neo-nazi movement. Fuck them. That's all the sympathy I can muster.
- gremloni 5y agoI’m not going to mourn a virtual klan meeting.
