What's the advantage of doing this with a filled aperture vs using synthetic aperture with satellites?
- japanuspus 5y agoSignal strength. Synthetic aperture might match the spatial resolution of filled aperture, but signal strength still depends on collected area. For radars you can compensate by upping the transmitted power, not so for passive listening.
- jvanderbot 5y agoIt's not really "filled". It's a metal spider web. The advantage is realized by putting it on the moon: Radio darkness, shielding from sunlight built in 50% of the time, nice anchoring, etc.
