- 174SIGSEGV 5y agoPlacenta is a flat cake, from Ancient Greek πλακοῦντος. Presumably, human placentae are named for their shape.
- ThePadawan 5y agoFun fact! The German word for placenta is still "Mutterkuchen" (mother['s] cake)!

- taejo 5y agoAnd in Austrian German crepes/pancakes are called Palatschinken, which comes via Slavic languages from plăcintă, so ultimately from Latin placenta
