Leaked documents reveal the special rules Facebook uses for 5.8M VIPs

- mc32 5y agoV.I.P. and 5.8MM is an oxymoron. In any case, I guess they want to please large swaths of users by censoring their platform but at the same time not lose their high profile users by normally deplatforming them as they would have had their TOS been applied evenly. We all knew that there were a lot of people who got away with the same thing for which others were suspended for, so it's only confirmation and not surprising.
- marnett 5y agoWhy do you say it is an oxymoron? With ~2.5bn global users, 5.8MM is ~0.2% of the total user base. That passes the VIP check to me.
- mc32 5y ago5.8MM is a large absolute number. Managing their content for moderation would require a lot of work. It’s no surprise then that they just whitelisted them.
- kurthr 5y agoYeah, VIPs can post revenge porn with 6Mil views while randos get booted for posting breast feeding pic, and executives claim they are enforcing the rules... sounds like VIP to me.
- fighterpilot 5y agoThis is them recognizing that their protocols have a huge number of false positives and they don't want PR about it so they are choosing not to subject anyone with reach to it.
