How is the "gig economy" any different from the usual tricks that employers get around benefits? Walmart, for example, will schedule employees < 30 hours and stack entire stores with part timers. My confusion is that the gig economy companies get a large share of the hate (justified or unjustified) but much of the criticism seems to boil down to unregulated capitalism.
