Persistent install of Arch Linux on a USB flash drive
- bravetraveler 5y agoI'd also suggest looking at the tools for your filesystem of choice -- seeing about tuning (or outright disabling) journaling there too. I'm surprised to see this wasn't mentioned here. It does jeopardize the data slightly, but we have to accept certain concessions have already been made. There's a fair bit of 'idle chatter' that happens, reducing the frequency at which the filesystem journal updates will extend the longevity of the flash drive. edit: With that said though... most devices these days, even Raspberry Pis, have enough memory to hold an OS in memory. I'd like to see a rise/resurgence in rootfs usage, only occasionally backing things up to disk :)
