Because discretionary emergency treatment doesn't exist.
It sets the precedent of that hospitals can pick and choose.
The homeless, drug users, obese, all get accepted emergency care.
- toomuchtodo 5y agoCrisis standards of care is a framework to ration healthcare when demand exceeds supply [1]. Idaho enacted this a week ago [2]. Hospitals can pick and choose: "When criteria of medical need distinguish among patients, allocate limited resources first based on likelihood of benefit or to avoid premature death, and then to promote the greatest duration of benefit after recovery." EDIT: The data is robust that the majority of unvaccinated patients who enter the ICU only exit via the morgue [3] [4], so medical criteria is being used in evaluating who does or does not receive care. This is not politics, this is objective science. - aantix 5y ago[4] - all ages, 28,883 hospitalizations, 5,126 deaths. This isn't certain death aka "only exit via the morgue". The current weekly average for covid deaths is 1,077 [1]. Weekly hospitalization rates have been over 80K for the past few weeks [2]. 97% of covid related deaths are unvaccinated. The numbers are objective. Your risk assessment is subjective.
- tzs 5y agoHe said "ICU" not "hospital". Overall in the US about 10% of hospital beds are in the ICU. I can't find a breakdown of what percent of COVID hospitalizations end up in the ICU.
- aantix 5y ago~25,000 for the recent week. https://ourworldindata.org/covid-hospitalizations#how-many-people-are-in-intensive-care-icu-due-to-covid-19-at-a-given-time https://ourworldindata.org/covid-hospitalizations#how-many-p... Not necessarily a death sentence. Especially if you’re in a younger cohort.
