Ben Stein: I've Been Suspended by YouTube
- allears 5y agoArticle discusses what seems like an unreasonable ban by YouTube, and does so without histrionics -- until the last sentence, when the author seems compelled to throw in "Sieg Heil" and Joe Biden in the same breath. This author couldn't even keep it in his pants for one short article. Not credible.
- adamrezich 5y agothe author is a well-known Jewish actor and comedian, and definitely not a Nazi. while this should be an unnecessary prerequisite for using a flippant "Sieg Heil" to make a "this authoritarianism, especially with regards to speech, is reminiscent of Nazi Germany" comparison—especially post-2016, when doing so jumped the shark entirely—it underscores the ridiculousness of the supposed offense.
- thesuperbigfrog 5y agoBen Stein's IMDB page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0825401/ https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0825401/ His use of "sieg heil" seems to be towards the authoritarian YouTube moderator bots.
- xyzzy21 5y agoHe's doing far better than 99.9999% of what's on the web, social media and mainstream media. I'll give him a pass on that last sentence!
- spdegabrielle 5y agoIsn't this the same terror every YouTuber lives under?
- InTheArena 5y agoThis is the problem - you are asking entities like Youtube to make decisions with significant business / cultural / governmental implications on the basis of very little information. Worse through the flag mechanism and "cancel culture" sometimes on the basis of of anonymous denunciations. I am incredibly strongly in favor of vaccines. Suppressing rational discussion of if a third shot is needed or not is a bad mistake and makes partisans less like to be vaccinated. It only flames the point of view that anything that doesn't toe the line, or is flagged by ideological vigilantes will be supressed. Plus this question has huge global ramifications - since a third booster shot would be using shots that could be deployed in Afria / Asia/etc.
