My parents, who's house in the Scottish Highlands is approximately 30 mins from the nearest village, have remarked of the number of tech millionaires who have moved into the area. They know about 6 of them, which is quite a lot for such small communities.
Overall the relationship is positive. They bring fiber and families, and in the Eastern highlands 'foreigners' (Stirling and south) are more welcome than in the wilder and more traditional West. There are concerns about excess development, but with so many empty holiday houses new permanent residents are welcome.
There is definitely a feeling that, with high quality internet in, more 'digital nomads' will set up in rural Scotland. I don't see why not, at least in the summer. The scenery is stunning and the weather can be amazing (particularly if you hate heat).
- FerretFred 5y agoSoooo, tell me how the midges are these days? :) I love Scotland though, in all seasons.
