Vermeer originally included a depiction of Cupid staring out of a painting (within the painting) in his work Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window.
Analysis revealed Cupid was painted over by someone many years after the original work was complete. Restorers are uncovering Cupid to bring the original statement back to the painting.
