Remember, this awful law offers no exceptions for rape victims.
- aaron695 5y ago> Remember, this awful law offers no exceptions for rape victims. This sums up the insanity of the average person... no offence. Why exactly can a rape victim kill a thing a non rape victim cannot kill? Why does the thing deserve to die, or is ok to die because the father is a rapist? I'm ok with the idea children can be punished for their parents sins, I believe in genetics, but I don't think this is your point? Non rape victims can have shitty mental health too and the idea when a woman's birth control fails she's at fault doesn't cut it either. Pro choice is all around emotive convenience. None of this is coherent ethics or even coherent facts, as we've seen this story consistently misreported, if we'd skipped the clever Shrek memes attacking a website and talked facts around the law maybe we'd move forward. I guess who cares, society is getting the Twitter society it deserves.
- raffraffraff 5y agoWe (Ireland) recently repealed a constitution amendment that banned abortion. My father is in his 90s and is a devout Catholic. He's exactly the type of person who would like to ban abortion, but before the referendum I had a long chat with him and have him a hypothetical situation: your daughter has just realised that she is pregnant. During the scan they also discover a tumor. The oncologist will not begin chemotherapy while she is pregnant. If she doesn't abort and begin chemotherapy her chances of survival are 10%. The embryo is just weeks old. Two major questions must be asked: 1. Is the life of a fully grown adult, who two children, a husband, parents, a brother, a sister and a large group of friends, worth "the same as" a 6 week old embryo that cannot actually think or feel? 2. Multiple choice questions: who should get to say whether or not she is allowed to abort in order to have a chance at survival? A judge? A doctor? A priest? Her father? Or.... Call me crazy... But maybe her? And that last question is the very definition of "pro-choice"
