That wasn't what I was trying to do at all, and I can't really see how you could get that from my initial reply, so I don't think we are going to agree on anything here, have a nice day.
- tommymachine 5y agoYou haven't seen how the moral imperative to stop the spread of that disease has been exaggerated well beyond practicality, and used to remove citizens' ability to consent to extremely profitable, taxpayer-funded medical experiments? It's a pretty direct line from what you're saying, (a moral imperative to "be careful") to what governments around the world have been trampling over people rights in order to do, which is lock down society, don't leave your house, take the experimental shot under coercion, etc. And the argument that destroys that propaganda is that it's prioritized not because it's effective in a utilitarian sense in saving lives, but because it's very effective in giving certain people a lot more power, at a great expense to the freedoms of other people. Maybe you weren't trying to say that, but that's the reality of public discourse on this topic. The moral imperative your are advocating for has been unilaterally adopted by tyrants. You should take responsibility for advocating a position that in effect removes people's rights. You won't do that, because you'll run from every confrontation that would show you this truth.
- polytely 5y agoI'm from the Netherlands so not sure about the current US situation, but: Firstly, Ok: I take full responsibility for advocating for a temporary reduction of rights to stop the spread of a novel virus with the aim of reducing strain on the healthcare system. I also think that we made the right choice, waiting for EMA approval before starting vaccinating. Right now here about 77% of the people (17,4 million) has been fully vaccinated and everything except nightclubs and big festivals has been reopened. I went to see The Green Knight a couple of weeks ago, didn't need a mask, or proof of vaccination/negative test. People haven't died en-masse from the vaccines, so things are pretty good right now. There is still a big backlog in delayed care right now, so if the seasonal aspect of covid means we gotta partially shut down some things the next winter, so be it.
- tommymachine 5y agoAre you aware that life itself is temporary? When do the restrictions end? 2 weeks? 50% vaxxed? 100% vaxxed? How many booster shots? How many cases? Is it just until civilization itself is but a distant memory, then the restrictions can end? Bad news: the restrictions last until the end of the universe. Good news: the universe is only temporary!
- orf 5y agolife is like, temporary dude. so like just ignore the pandemic and like just focus on freedom man. masks are for sheep and my personal freedom to be able to visit a mcdonalds without a mask means more to me than the potential side effect of indirectly killing someone. you see i don't care about the endless restrictions of my freedom placed upon me post 9/11, i care about this highly specific and politicised position the media i consume told me to care about because i can score points with the big bad other side! the side that thinks maybe you should not sacrifice a non-trivial percentage of our population without trying to restrict the spread of a virus. but nah, don't think about all that, think about the big bad medical experiment the big bad government is subjecting us to, think about the endless restrictions to our freedoms that definitely for sure 100% wont ever end and worry some more about the biden administration coming for my guns. fox news told me it's gonna happen any day!
- tommymachine 5y agoPatriot Act is unconstitutional. You think I watch Faux News? By the way, the first article on your site has nothing to do with the title. You don't even mention lossless audio format in the entire body, just pure UX gripes with the app (design and bugs). You must be real smart though. Have you thought about applying to work at the White House?
- orf 5y agoNo, they require masks to work there. I can’t abide by that, haven’t you heard that the co2 from your breath while wearing a mask gives your children autism? Infowars told me. I can’t handle that level of risk to my personal freedoms. What's next, background checks when buying automatic weapons??!!? Sorry I might be late replying, I’m going to get KFC without a mask for my elderly, uninsured grandparents who also believe the Chinese Virus is a hoax perpetrated by Biden to control our minds and remove our freedoms. But thankfully the heat death of the universe means that’s all inconsequential!
