Ask HN: Why is Jeff Bezos donating so much money to Maui?

I live here and have noticed a lot of donations happening from Bezos to various causes and projects on Maui. It may be purely because he loves the island as much I do. It may be something else, like Amazon is opening something here? I have no idea. Anyone know anything?
