Ubuntu 21.10 Performance Still Pushing Ahead of Windows 10, Latest Windows 11
- cable2600 5y agoLinux's Kernel is awesome.
- 0xdeadb00f 5y agoLinux is literally a kernel itself.
- dmz73 5y agoYour wording shows lack of understanding of GNU/Linux history since Linux is the kernel and all the distros just build around it. But even bigger tragedy is thinking that this is awesome. We had an amazing kernel/os called BeOS that would run circles around Linux, Windows and MacOS. While Linux may have raw performance benchmark crown, it is essentially DOS of the OS world where you can run a process fast but user experience is similar to what was there in the 80's - one application can freeze the UI for all. BeOS could run a number of multimedia and animation applications simultaneously on a single core CPU with UI being still completely responsive. Today you can still see what could have been by trying out Haiku OS.

- aquir 5y agoYeah, I’ve tried to install it alongside with Windows 10 on it’s own partition but the installer somehow left the boot partition on the USB? That was about trying out Ubuntu 21.10 :( Installed Debian 11 on the same way and it’s fine!
- IronWolve 5y agoBeen using xanmod kernels for a long time for gui performance increase. Now Windows 11 is using advanced scheduler for the desktop so it always feel snappy when bogged down. Kinda like how the new arm macs, people just says it feels faster in the desktop. Took awhile for but Win11/Mac, but linux with kernel performance patch tweaks been around for a long time. https://xanmod.org/ https://xanmod.org/
- phendrenad2 5y agoThese kernel mods are an interesting phenomenon. Is there some reason they haven't been upstreamed into mainline? It seems like there are a number of standalone patches ("multigenerational RCU", "clear Linux") that people remix into patchsets. I'm guessing these are somehow too opinionated for the core kernel devs to accept?
