Maybe the change is not reddit, maybe it's you growing up? For some reason I still waste my time there trying to share opinions as a HK resident: no China is not just "evil", not Hong Kong is not "oppressed", yes the old idiots, communists or not, are all the same conservative cowards as anywhere else, no we dont seem to really want a bloodbath, so far. You can imagine the amount of weird obsessive hatred I get with this opinion, from people who ve never been to China :D
