I'd say it depends on two things
1) where are you based?
2) will you be incorporating anyway?
First off, if you're not in the US, it's a pain to get setup in the states. Yes Stripe Atlas goes some way to helping, but setting up accounts in the US is not easy, so if you're not in the US, you're probably better off registering in your home country first. You can always spin up to a Delaware company.
Do you need to incorporate at all at this stage? Leave this off as long as you can. Not because it's challenging, but if you don't need it, you don't need it. Focus on what needs to be done to push your project forward. Then when you absolutely need to incorporate, do it.
- mattrighetti 5y agoYes I imagined that no 1. could be a problem, I am indeed based in Italy. no 2. Yes, I mean if I get accepted in YC I will take their advice and form a C-Corp to get investments (which is what usually happens when you get into YC, after demo day) and I would have to do it because VC will ask me, most likely, to incorporate into one. I don’t need at all to incorporate at the moment, I’m a software engineer so I’m not an expert in this field and I also want to delay this as much as possible because I would feel much more safe without spending any money on this legal stuff
- pedalpete 5y agoYup, I'm a software engineer too. So just to be clear, you don't need to get a Delaware C Corp until after you're accepted to YC. You can get an interview without it with the expectation that you move to a Delaware if accepted.
