IMHO Loneliness is not the cause but one of many symptoms of the decent into mental illness that results in gun violence. Many friends end up distancing themselves from sick people because the illness pushes them away, not because of disinterest.
The fact that our current society does not get involved in preventing self destructive behavior enough is less about selfishness and more about the highly publicized anecdotal results that occur when people do intervene such ad police wellness checks gone wrong.
As horrible and tragic as gun violence is and not to discount any of the pain and heartache that survivors and the loved ones of victims experience...mass violence is a very rare event, so rare that most efforts to prevent it are
at best just a waste of time and worse a tool of the propagandist to further divide a fractioning culture.
