- brundolf 5y agoIt was slightly before my time so I'm not really sure why it suddenly died. I can say the author's correct that a declarative style has proven to be more productive in the time since, but there was a big gap there between the declarative shift and when swing died off.
- cosmotic 5y agoAs someone who's worked on both declarative and procedural UI, I'd say declarative is harder to work with. It's much more difficult to debug. I think the largest benefit of declarative is that it largely mitigates unresponsive UI code, though that too is pretty easy with a little care.
- brundolf 5y agoI've worked with both too (only really on the web, fwiw) and I have the opposite feelings. It feels like a huge waste of my mental energy to manually keep state in sync across different parts of the app when that's pretty well a solved problem at this point.
