World’s biggest machine capturing carbon from air turned on in Iceland
- edhelas 5y ago4000T of CO² out of the air every year. That's the emissions of 870 cars (https://www.letemps.ch/economie/climeworks-lance-islande-plus-grande-usine-captage-co2-lair-monde https://www.letemps.ch/economie/climeworks-lance-islande-plu...). We just need to build a few millions of them and we will be good. And don't tell me about "the tech will evolve". Here we have several order of magnitudes.
- jl2718 5y agoCapturing 100% of global CO2 emissions would cost 75% of global energy production. [1] This neglects the economic, energy, and environmental cost of building the plants. Also the environmental cost of the chemicals used in the process. All this industrial waste ends up in waterways and the ocean, where it kills flora and phytoplankton. - bg117 5y agoIts not clear how much CO2 does the machine release into the atmosphere? Does it source energy from clean resources? "Stitch in time saves nine". It's always better to move to a carbon free lifestyle instead of coming up with a round-about expensive way to capture what was released into the atmosphere.
