Why do you presume to know why they made that decision? Also why do you think that it's entirely about gender equality when the younger generations have grown up in an era where wages have stagnated and few families can get by on a single income? I have a lot more sympathy for the view that traditional gender roles have wisdom as I've had kids of my own, but it really seems like you are over-indexing on it which is especially offensive coming from a man who has historically benefited from the set up.
