There is an education variant of every windows version. Home education, pro education etc.

  Fine, okay, but what's the eligibility criteria? As far as I can tell you have to go through an Academic Licensing service, which would immediately tell me to go away since I'm not a school/university/whatever. It's simply not available to most people.
