- rasfincher 5y agoI love these two videos. TLDR, Defense Attorney: Don't talk to the cops. Cop: Yeah, what he said.
- jeffrallen 5y agoThen, hilariously: Cop: how many sped in your cars on the way here? Audience: a few hands go up Defense Attorney: I JUST TOLD YOU NOT TO TALK TO COPS!
- nacs 5y agoThere's also the popular, much simpler version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgWHrkDX35o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgWHrkDX35o
- dredmorbius 5y agoThat is, unfortunately, age-gated by YouTube. (Shut the Fuck Up has apparently been Shut the Fuck Upped.)

- KingMachiavelli 5y agoSure but you have to say something when a cop pulls you over or detains you as part of an investigating.
- mywittyname 5y agoIt's really hard to know what you have to do and what is optional unless you're actually a lawyer. And not answering optional stuff might still end up with you getting your ass kicked by the police.
- prawn 5y agoAlso, you presumably have to know or be willing to contact a lawyer and starting paying their fees for what could well be a non-issue. I can understand the risks in the US, but it just seems very adversarial. I have no qualms regarding speaking with police in Australia. I don't have fears of them planting evidence or tripping me up on something. But that might not be true of all Australians, I guess.
- jeffrallen 5y agoWhat you say is, "I'd like to speak to a lawyer, please." Over and over, until they are bored and give up trying to intimidate you.
- dredmorbius 5y agoNo you do not:[1] You have the right to remain silent. For example, you do not have to answer any questions about where you are going, where you are traveling from, what you are doing, or where you live. If you wish to exercise your right to remain silent, say so out loud. (In some states, you may be required to provide your name if asked to identify yourself, and an officer may arrest you for refusing to do so.) https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/ https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/ ________________________________ Notes: 1.
