Novel principles of nuclear architecture and chromatin compartmentalization
- panabee 5y agoKey points: * Researchers analyzed the nuclei of live muscle cells and discovered novel principles of DNA organization and nuclear architecture. * The research team discovered that chromatin mainly sits on the periphery and is attached to the nuclear lamina (inner nuclear wall), contrary to the current theory that chromatin mainly occupies the center of the nucleus. * The researchers explained why the chromatin appeared to fill the cell nuclei in past studies. “When scientists plate cells on a glass slide in order to study them under a microscope, they change their volume and physically flatten them. This may perturb some of the forces governing chromatin arrangement and reduce the distance between the upper part of the nucleus to its base."
