The author is the CEO of DataKinetics, a major mainframe software company. I'm genuinely surprised that this wasn't listed as a disclaimer in the article--it represents a massive conflict of interest that calls the results into question, since the author would profit from companies remaining on the mainframe.
- jasonhansel 5y agoIn case you're wondering why Planet Mainframe wouldn't require such a disclaimer: DataKinetics is one of their biggest sponsors, making this even more of an ethical minefield.
- kerblang 5y agoIt's painfully obvious the web site is intended to promote mainframe technology, the author's bio is right there in plain sight, and you were able to find the web site's sponsors by simply checking the "About" link. It would certainly be unethical if they intended to deceive people about their purposes, but I'd be hard-pressed to find a way for them to be more obvious.
- kristjansson 5y agoI mean, the mainframe-vs-commodity comparison on "planetmainframe.com" does not have the highest prior expectation of impartiality to begin with.
