What are examples of things designed in the last 20 years that are federated and usable?
- unicornporn 5y agoMatrix, Mastodon and PeerTube.
- spoonjim 5y agoIs Mastodon federated in practice? I’m a member of several but they are all independent.
- tadzik_ 5y agoIndependent as in: closed off? Servers that don't federate are extremely rare ime, except for the likes of Gab that most people just choose not to federate with.
- numpad0 5y agoRemote follow don’t work as good as hardcore users would like it to. Federation mechanisms would have to have kilo- to mega-posts/second bandwidth but not happening. Also that federation choice being in hand of instance owners makes an account on each instances a must. You are going to have a person or two that your instance owners don’t like, or instance or two that don’t like yours.
- tadzik_ 5y agoCurious – I run my own pleroma instance for myself on a tiny VPS and I'm seeing no problems at all, with remote follows or any other interactions.
- unbad505 5y agoI follow many people from different instances all on one account
- mdoms 5y agoThere are none.
