NASA chief on Blue Origin protest: “They have every right” to sue
- paulddraper 5y ago> A second option is through the 2022 budget process...Anything remains possible during the fluid budget process...which will play out over the next several months. > [NASA Chief] Nelson has suggested that $10 billion for a second Human Landing System be included in a $4.5 trillion infrastructure bill. Why would we want two different landing systems?
- SllX 5y agoIf you’re going to spend like the biggest drunkest sailor in history, why the hell not ask for two?
- paulddraper 5y agoI too remember when days when $4.5T was a lot of money.
- SllX 5y agoIt still is. The fact that we are being lied to about how it’s a pittance does not obviate that.
- zardo 5y agoWhy have just one when you can have two for only 4x the price?
- 8note 5y agoWhen getting one is 8x the price, 2 for 4x sounds like a steal
- NobodyNada 5y agoChoosing two contractors means NASA has a “backup” option in case the primary contractor fails to deliver. Of course, SpaceX has a much better track record of delivering on their contracts than Blue Origin — but remember, when NASA awarded the Commercial Crew Program contracts in 2014, Boeing was considered the “safe bet” and SpaceX was a risky backup. Now, SpaceX has already launched three crews with a fourth scheduled for next month, whereas Boeing has yet to complete an uncrewed test mission.
