Everyone please buy an iPhone 13 Mini!
I need it to sell well so that someone keeps making a small-ish phone :(
- grishka 5y agoI wish someone made a similarly small Android phone. iOS is a no-go for me because I prefer to own my devices. Also, headphone jacks are nice.
- mattl 5y agoI thought most of the flagship brands of Android phone have no headphone jack now?
- magila 5y agoOddly enough, some of the smallest Android phones released in the last couple of years have headphone jacks, e.g.: Galaxy S10e and Pixel 4a.
- grishka 5y agoAs ridiculous as it feels, lack of a headphone jack is a flagship feature now.
- grishka 5y agoBut they're also ridiculously huge, so I don't consider them anyway. Also Sony did experiment with removing the jack but brought it back and markets it as an advantage.
- throw0101a 5y ago> Also, headphone jacks are nice. Also: Touch ID. I'm not against Face ID additionally, but I like my home button.
- grishka 5y agoOh yeah, this too. Though for the last 6 years, I've used Android phones with the fingerprint scanner on the back. Face ID doesn't require a conscious action from me (placing a finger on the scanner) to unlock, this just doesn't feel right. Besides, faces change over time so it must have weaker thresholds, and I'm not convinced they're sufficiently unique.
- randomopining 5y agoIs there gonna be one? I hope.
- geofft 5y agoUnfortunately, my iPhone SE 1st gen is still doing really well, and will be supported by iOS 15, and it's hard to justify ~$800 on a new phone when my current one was $300. I'm considering buying a 12 Mini if the price drops after the 13 Mini is out...
- taylodl 5y agoI replaced my SE 1st gen with an SE 2nd gen. It's a little larger, but small by iPhone standards.
- lotsofpulp 5y agoI am in the same boat. They released the 12 mini 6 months after the new SE, which came after years of not having a smaller phone option. It must have cratered sales for the 12 mini.
- handrous 5y agoI'd help you out, but I expect to use my 12 mini for at least 3 more years, maybe 5.
- odiroot 5y agoLooking at you, Sony! You were so great before.
- oplav 5y agoPlanning on upgrading a 1st Gen iPhone SE this year but the decision between 12 mini and 13 mini currently lies solely on whether the 13 mini will have Touch ID.
- polskibus 5y agoOnly if they bump battery life
- evanrich 5y agoAgreed. It’s been fine during covid because I have barely left the house. The times I have it has not performed well battery-wise. Will be looking to bump size next round.
- wlesieutre 5y agoI haven't had this experience, looking at my last 10 days in the battery history there was only one time I broke 75% battery usage. Put it down to usage differences, I have it in my pocket to listen to music and podcasts or take some photos if the need arises, but I'm not using my phone with the screen on all the time. Having a small phone is great for that. If I knew I were going somewhere that I planned to have my phone out all day, I'd rather bring a battery instead of carrying around a bigger and more expensive phone for the 99% of the time when I don't need it. The one thing I want from the larger phone sizes is the Pro camera module. But between the price and the size increases I'm happy with the mini.
- ssully 5y agoI don't know if they will stop making them completely, but they did cut production on the 12 mini due to lower demand than expected: https://www.engadget.com/apple-iphone-12-mini-production-report-172806780.html https://www.engadget.com/apple-iphone-12-mini-production-rep...
- zepto 5y agoThe ‘lower demand than expected’ is just speculation.
- ssully 5y agoIs it though? According to the article: "The company will reportedly produce at least 70 percent fewer units than it initially planned". Why else would they make a cut that large?
- zepto 5y agoDid they make that cut? Was it a cut, or was the reduction in volume part of their plan. Typically they want devices in channel globally at launch, which implies a huge ramp up at the beginning. After that they only need to keep up with constant sales volume. Tim Cook has repeatedly warned people that these kinds of supply chain rumors do not indicate what people assume they do.
- ssully 5y agoWell I will avoid further speculation then! That makes sense and I hope that is the case, the mini seems like a cool device and I hope it's part of their lineup next time I need a new phone.
- TrainedMonkey 5y agoWhat are plausible alternatives? The only one I can think of is prioritizing higher margin units due to supply chain problems.
- butterfi 5y agoI just bought a 12 mini and I'm thrilled! It has almost the exact same screen real estate my 7plus did, but fits nicely into my pants pocket.
- BiteCode_dev 5y agoRemember that Apple is putting photo scanning and reporting into their hardware. They just postponed it because they phone their big event and new phone to sell, then they will do it.
- smoldesu 5y agoThe iPhone 12 mini looked like a great phone, if I had the freedom to install a Linux-based OS on it I'd probably have picked one up.

- tomjen3 5y agoThat was my plan, but I really need the pro mini, so that I don't get worse cameras than I have today.
- TrueGeek 5y agoI heard a rumor that the 13 Mini is already going to be the last Mini. I have no need to upgrade, the 12 Mini is perfect. But I'm going to buy the 13 Mini just so that I have one more year before I have to give up that form factor.
