Meat Atlas: Facts and figures about the animals we eat 2021 [pdf]
- open-source-ux 5y agoMeat Atlas: Facts and figures about the animals we eat 2021 This report was produced by Friends of the Earth Europe (based in Belgium) and Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung (a German political foundation). Here is the press release about the report from Friends of the Earth Europe. Europe must curb meat industry to halt climate and biodiversity crises: https://friendsoftheearth.eu/press-release/new-meat-atlas/ https://friendsoftheearth.eu/press-release/new-meat-atlas/ Whether you are a meat eater or not (I'm a meat eater), there is no dispute that industrial farming has given us an insatiable appetite for cheap meat in Europe and the US. An appetite that shows no sign of abating. We're conditioned to believe that current meat consumption levels have always been like this thoughout history. But we are eating more meat today than in any other period of human history (at least in the West). If even climate change can't change our meat consumption habits, what will? Note: See page 13 of the report for a chart showing Meat consumption by country, per capita, 2017 which is captioned: "A general rule: the richer a country is, the more meat its inhabitants consume. But other factors, like climate or religion, also influence per capita consumption."
