While I am all for long-term support, as stated this law could be a little harh on manufacturers, forcing them to support multiple obsoletter models (we are talking iPhone 6 released 7 years ago). I think it would be reasonable to give them an opt-out by EITHER providing X years of support, or offering a shorter support period but with a discount on device upgrade calculated as percent from the original list price.

- vzaliva 5y agoIn case of this law passing they will raise prices to cover costs for supporting old hardware. But I, perosnally change phones every 2 years becuse I like new techology and do not want to pay the price for supporting obsolte hardware which I do not use. Proposed law should balance benefits of people who want to use old hardware vs. ones who one to upgrade often.
- trissi 5y agoThis would probably increase resell value of your old devices so most of the cost would be returned if you resell your device.
