Show HN: This Cake Is A Lie -- GAN-made confections
- mkaic 5y agoHi HN! Last year, I posted a thread asking for pointers on where I could go to teach myself Machine Learning, and, well - you guys were helpful enough that I got completely obsessed and am now making strides towards starting a career in ML! This website is (hopefully) a step in the right direction. It's just an Apache server that serves up an image which is constantly being overwritten by the trained generator model, meaning every time you refresh the page, you get a brand new cake! Thanks for supporting me all those months ago! I hope you enjoy the AI cake :P
- accountofme 5y agoNice work! Glados would be proud!
- mkaic 5y agoThanks!
- quickthrower2 5y agoCool stuff. A 3D cake printer is now required to make these a reality!
- mkaic 5y agoI wonder if it's even remotely feasible to use another neural network to estimate the mesh of the best cherry-picked examples, and then actually 3D print an AI cake!
- stephenr 5y ago... I hit refresh 3 times (so I saw 4 fake cakes). Not one of them looked like a photo of a cake. They all had glaring weird areas that are just a mess of blurred pixels.
- mkaic 5y agoYou just gotta believe :P And yeah, sometimes the outputs are funky, and almost all of the time there are artifacts. Removing them would mean training a much higher-capacity model (like StyleGAN2) for much longer (like a week) and since this was just a hobby side project to put on my resume, I felt fine calling it at "good enough". Personally, I like the constant AI weirdness and artifacting, it feels charming to me :)
