They ask if they can search your vehicle? The answer is no, always, on principle. And even though, on principle, there's nothing wrong with it, why would you ride around with 86k in cash on you? That was also a mistake. What the officers did was wrong, civil asset forfeiture is wrong, the man was well within his rights, but at the end of the day you're responsible for yourself.
