I was just in Trona and Boron today - nearly half of the world's borax and boron chemical supply come from these two places in the Mojave. From saline pumped from under dry lakes. The same places supply much of the soda ash and bicarbonate of soda for the US. Plus sodium sulfate/glauber's salt.
