When I was a child I loved to rollerblade. I stopped when I moved and there wasn't a lot of pavement. Now I walk some of the parks around Houston. There's plenty of people using a diverse set of leisure/exercise activities. I see more rollerbladers than rollerskaters on the bike paths. Rollerblading isn't dead.
