Why chronic stress wipes out discipline – the Tryptophan-Kynurenine Pathway
- DenisM 5y agoI have to say the boogieman that is "inflammation" is a bit sus. Inflammation, as I understand it, is the body fighting against perceived infection. Why should it be the root of all evil?
- Andys 5y agoperhaps oversimplified, but I think its the distinction between acute and chronic inflammation. You are talking about acute.
- eurasiantiger 5y agoThat is correct. The author is writing about chronic inflammation.
- helloworld11 5y agoI'd love to see the scientific evidence for chronic, generalized "inflammation" being behind so many states of illness. I know there are certain specific chronic inflammatory diseases but to attribute this term to so many things has a whiff of obsessive fixation.
- xg15 5y agoMy understanding: "Inflammation" is a specific metabolic response against certain threats to the body (e.g. infection). The response itself is essential when used against a threat but becomes has harmful side-effects when active for too long. Uncontrolled, extensive inflammation is "chronic inflammation". You want the sprinkler system in your office to turn on quickly when there is a fire. You do not want that same sprinkler system to be on all the time while you're working.
