A NYT journalist created a coin named “Idiot Coin” and it 100x'ed
- unethical_ban 5y agoWithout reading the article: I would guess that the kinds of people who keep an eye on new coins popping up are simply betting on which one will take off. If a coin is created by someone with built-in marketing available, who would love to see the coin grow in order to write a more interesting story, wouldn't someone bite? And wouldn't other people bite because they think lots of other people are going to bite? We live in a world where an arctic government ship is called "boaty mcboatface" by popular vote.

- Canada 5y agoHe doesn't link to the token contract or market, so I call BS. Anyone can mint a token and create a pool for it, setting any price they like. It's not nearly so easy to do this with volume though, and without volume the price is a meaningless non-story.
- qqii 5y agoYou're correct, from the original article he links the token website, and the contract address. As you can see there's basically no liquidity at all, as the last transaction was 2 days ago: https://bscscan.com/token/0xcf0a8ef5ae54b15588b337454c71bb4cb466d584#tokenTrade https://bscscan.com/token/0xcf0a8ef5ae54b15588b337454c71bb4c...
