The last study I saw seemed to imply that cloth masks have a very tiny effect, if any, but surgical masks are pretty good. The problem is that the media doesn't do nuance, they write big bold headlines that are outrage bait to drive engagement. And more than a few people never read anything but the headline. At this point, I feel like headlines themselves are harmful.
