- Clampower 5y agoExactly, we should keep feeding the outrage machine.
- krapp 5y agoWhat "outrage machine?" I don't see anyone being outraged. The article doesn't project or describe any outrage, no one in this thread seems to be outraged. (yet.)
- bryan0 5y agoThere is a world of nuanced discussion between flippant dismissal and outrage. Please let’s try to shoot for somewhere in the middle.
- chipotle_coyote 5y agoNo, we should put effort into not being outrageous, whether or not it is intentional.
- jonplackett 5y agoTaking something seriously is what I’m suggesting, not being outraged. Being flippant or intentionally over pedantic is dismissing it as unimportant or a non-issue. It would be easy as a white person (as I am) to look at this and say, ah well it’s just an honest mistake. But this is just an example of a wider problem of AIs being trained on white people. A while back I made the first automatic face swap app Face Juggler and I would often get complaints that it didn’t work as well on black people - I was using apple’s face detection so couldn’t do anything about it which was frustrating. It might seem trivial but it isn’t. AI’s are going to be running more and more stuff that is a lot more important.
