Dogs distinguish human intentional and unintentional action
- h2odragon 5y ago> We only tested pet dogs. 51 dogs (27 female and 24 male) of various breeds and ages (1–15 years) We only tested dogs who had not received special training, as for example police dogs or registered rescue dogs. I'd call that reasonable enough for a sample. Some dogs are just stupid, the actions of others are always a mystery to them. Some are brighter than many of the humans they meet. I've been lucky enough to have both at the same time, the rest of the pack helped the slow one and made her life much happier. I bet most humans, watching the videos of their "oops" trials, would interpret the dog's reactions properly. Mostly "ha ha you dropped it" but a few "do you think i'm falling for that?" Which leads to the question: is the finding here actually news to anyone who has spent time talking to a dog?
