This misinformation, promoted by NPR, needs to stop. Lives are on the line.
Scientists who developed ivermectin won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2015 for its use in humans. Here are some historical statistics on it's use in humans:

Please learn the facts about this medicine. Here's a good summary that explains a bit about the politically partisan folks intentionally talking about the horse formulation of ivermectin, which some people have apparently tried to use:

Again, ivermectin is used in people. Some say it's one of the tools that helped India with respect to the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2.

Such high doses can be highly toxic in humans. Moreover, the FDA reviews drugs not just for safety and effectiveness of the active ingredients, but also for the inactive ingredients. Many inactive ingredients found in products for animals aren’t evaluated for use in people. Or they are included in much greater quantity than those used in people. In some cases, we don’t know how those inactive ingredients will affect how ivermectin is absorbed in the human body.' https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/why-you-should-not-use-ivermectin-treat-or-prevent-covid-19 https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/why-you-shoul...

Campbell and Satoshi Ōmura "for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites" ... Roundworm parasites. Right there. ...and you were saying...?
