There are plenty of protests happening around the world, whether you're aware of them or not. The 20th century has proven authoritarian regimes can take over almost every country except USA. We don't have to go that far back to see how a crisis can unite a country. Take for example 9/11. The division came later but not during the incident itself, and that wasn't even threatening people's lives directly.
