How about an immunologist's take?

- BoorishBears 5y ago"Malone clarified that he was not discouraging the use of the vaccine but was providing people with as much fair information as he could about their risks." Doesn't exactly jive with: "As a young healthy person, I still think natural immunity is the best way to reach some semblance of herd immunity for groups not at high risk. This feels like prescribing incomplete courses of antibiotics."
- generalizations 5y agoHe's been dragged through the mud as a peddler of misinformation. He kinda has to include that disclaimer if he doesn't want to lose whatever's left of his career.
- BoorishBears 5y agoDo you really think he supports this? "I still think natural immunity is the best way to reach some semblance of herd immunity for groups not at high risk" https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/state/florida https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-st... We're already seeing what happens with that approach here in the US. ICUs are being completely overwhelmed in areas where 'healthy young people' took it upon themselves to turn down the vaccine and test this person's theory on natural immunity. What a joke that people are actually acting like Tucker Carlson misusing an experts words, and that expert having the audacity to correct that misuse, is not exactly what it sounds like... an expert caring about nuance in conversations more than a talking head and a random "healthy young person" might It's especially a joke when it's so easy to look for yourself and see how bad of a hypothesis it is: https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2021/07/30/florida-leads-the-nation-in-covid-infections-hospitalizations/ https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2021/07/30/florida-lead...
- generalizations 5y agoIf you want to talk state-by-state, then remember that California is right up there with Florida. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109004/coronavirus-covid19-cases-rate-us-americans-by-state/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109004/coronavirus-covi... Though, I don't know why you brought in florida, or some talking head like Carlson. Doesn't really seem relevant. Since you do care this much about the use of the vaccine, it might be worth looking into the coalitions of doctors and experts that are opposed to (or just suspicious of) the vaccine. Otherwise you're just making a strawman.
- BoorishBears 5y agoThe answer to all your questions was in the comment you replied to, but maybe it went over your head. His response for example, that you claim was "to save his career". It was a reply to Tucker Carlson misusing his first words. > and that expert having the audacity to correct that misuse What... do you think that means? > If you want to talk state-by-state, then remember that California is right up there with Florida That's some sad what-aboutism... Florida was chosen because of an above average number of their "young healthy people" are refusing to that are getting vaccinated, is this just your political bias leaking out because I chose a right leaning state? The irony of this is Florida is doing so poorly your source literally can't keep up. https://covidactnow.org/us/florida-fl/?s=22581181 https://covidactnow.org/us/florida-fl/?s=22581181 In the last week Florida has pulled pretty far ahead of California. Over 2x the daily COVID cases per day. And 3x the deaths per day. What about we choose the state with the most cases per 100k per day: https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/state/south-carolina https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-st... Wow... same trend. Young healthy people won't get vaccinated, virus rages. Second highest? https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/state/tennessee https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-st... Same trend? Same trend. 3rd highest? https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/state/kentucky https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-st... Big surprise! What about the lowest cases per 100k? https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/state/connecticut https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-st... 16-24 and 25-34 are vaccinated at rates of 59% and 62%. Compared to 19% and 36% of the worst. The delta from lowest to highest rates of vaccination for age groups is 20 percentage points. Vs 62% in SC. Don't be so wrong about such easily found facts. And don't act like some doctors and experts disagreeing with what the majority have endorsed means anything more than doctors and experts are not a hivemind. And don't paint doctors and experts who are for being careful with things like the 44k dose clinical trials as "suspicious". Ps: Don't misuse "strawman" if you don't know what it means.
