Security theatre.
Back in 2013 Snowden thankfully gave us good insight into why these efforts are made.
- erikpukinskis 5y agoSome bad actors are stupid and lazy. The fact that people can still get away with crimes given a protection scheme is not, in itself, reason to skip the scheme. The relevant question is: will it catch some people?
- musha68k 5y agoNo, the relevant question is: who gets to decide that we end up having this discussion? Mass surveillance is not an option. Even if it were, it would eventually expose a wrong approach. Mitigating (systemic) child abuse does not necessitate flashy “crypto surveillance”. It asks for well educated and vigilant societies and correspondingly smart and industrious investigation work. At best this is aimless activism. Either way trust has been broken. Big time. With great power comes great responsibility.
