WhatsApp fined $267M for not telling users how it shared data with Facebook
- hamburgerwah 5y agoMake a few billion doing something illegal. Get fined 10% of ill gotten profit. Repeat.
- vghaisas 5y agoI think it's interesting that while some will debate whether $267M is a big enough fine, it was originally going to be just $50M! "The Irish authority had originally asked WhatsApp for a €50 million fine for breaking GDPR, but it quickly came under pressure from other data protection agencies pushing for a stiffer penalty."

- sam_goody 5y agoFB makes more than that in a day! [1] The infraction here seems pretty big. Even considering that originally the fine was going to be much smaller... what good are wrist slaps, especially for an culturally unethical company such as Facebook. Could this help future infractions get a larger slap (as second infractions)?
