Why do we have to make those concessions?
There are zero apps I can't uninstall or processes I can't see on my arch Linux desktop.
- smoldesu 5y agoWe need to make them because most people have a limited understanding of computer abstractions. I love Linux, and use it on pretty much every device I own. Even still, getting comfortable with Linux has a pretty profound learning curve with it's different WMs/DEs. As a developer, I highly appreciate the burden of choice here. End users likely won't feel the same way.
- hulitu 5y agoIf "most people have a limited understanding of computer abstractions" then don't make them. You know why people have a "limited understanding of computer abstractions" ? Because everything is hidden. "The user is stupid" they say. No it is not. 30 years ago when you logged in in CDE you were presented also with a help window and you had the chance to learn about your computer. My android phone needs an internet connection for help (older android 2.6 did not even had help). How do i connect to the internet to find out how to connect to the internet ? I am too stupid to be told something like this. I need abstractions.
