Where is that wealth now, I wonder if it's really all that secure. History has shown that ill-gotten wealth can be made transitory, if someone tries hard enough. Seen any Medici lately?

- alistairSH 5y agoThe Medici family continues to exist and is still wealthy.
- sofixa 5y agoThe main branch, the ones with the money and power, did die off, and their lands were given to Maria-Theresa's husband as compensation for him losing his ancestral lands ( Lorraine, because the French king didn't want Austria to have land even closer to him) after the war of the Austrian Succession.
