Is Erlang still relevant?
Many other languages now have both language features and libraries/frameworks for doing similar things to Erlang's main selling points.
Languages that are easier to work with for most, e.g. syntax wise, better tooling, etc.
I see little reason to pick Erlang for any greenfield project.
"Erlang enables you to write scalable, concurrent, distributed and fault tolerant systems with soft-realtime latency guarantees"
Not unique to Erlang.
Not even the author realizes he does not actually answer his why.
- e_proxus 5y agoI’ve yet to see a language + framework combination that has everything great from Erlang/OTP. Scala+Akka might come close, but from what I’ve heard it’s not there yet.
- mbrodersen 5y agoYes Erlang is still truly unique.
