Why We Love the Steelcase Gesture Office Chair
- linsomniac 5y agoI recently purchased a home office chair, and used the Wirecutter review as part of the process. Unfortunately the Prime Day deal on the Gesture happened a couple days after I ordered another chair. The Gesture is one of the more expensive options, IIRC it was $1,200 but Prime Day might have brought it down to more like $900. One thing Wirecutter gets wrong is that they are comparing the Gesture to the Leap v2 priced at $900, and they pick the Gesture because it's a little more adjustable. However, there are options for the Leap v2 that bring it to mid $400s, delivered, and I think that changes the equation. Search google and ebay for them refurb, pricing will be in the $300s, but after taxes and shipping I think mine was somewhere around $440. The ebay listing was slightly unclear, saying it was new in original packaging, but description admitting it was refurbed. Upholstery was new, though smelled of solvents for a few days. Packaging was sketchy, but the chair arrived in fine shape. Part of what made me lean towards the Leap v2, beyond the price, was that we have a number of them in our office and they've served us well. I ended up selecting a different, Herman Miller chair (not THAT one :-), but the Leap v2 was my close #2 choice. There were a lot of compelling refurb options, for home use I'd be reluctant to spend a grand+ on a new one.
