ARM China Seizes IP, Relaunches as an ‘Independent’ Company
- aurizon 5y agoI can see that the China arm may well fall further and further behind the state of the ARM art as time goes by inability to create smaller designs as 3 and 2 nm, and smaller become the state of the art. This will relegate their chips to a shrinking market. In addition the Rest Of World has IP protection and will halt parts as well as finished good with stolen designs embedded at their border - more or less ruining some markets. The real ARM may have the ability to permit their new designs to have the ability to recognize these stolen chips as they interact with true chips and stop function or even 'phone home'(if legal).
- jqpabc123 5y agoA potential flaw in your line of reasoning --- most processors are manufactured in China. Who is going to build ARM's newest designs if not China?
- aurizon 5y agoNot the fine features. How many 7 nm fabs in China? and smaller? https://www.notebookcheck.net/China-is-catching-up-SMIC-foundry-is-now-able-to-produce-7-nm-chips.498166.0.html https://www.notebookcheck.net/China-is-catching-up-SMIC-foun...
