MDcat – Simple Markdown to GitHub styled HTML converter
- calganaygun 5y agoI needed a simple website for a project. I quickly developed this script. Maybe someone wants or needs to use it in their projects.
- JNRowe 5y agoA little warning in the README that it is going to send your file to GitHub might be prudent. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be expecting it to be rendering the markdown locally.
- ayewo 5y agoThe author clearly states that it is a super simple project but I didn't fully understand your comment until I viewed the Python script: https://github.com/calganaygun/MDcat/blob/31c9a4eb29c53d764b185aad89f7b9544095addc/mdcat.py#L19 https://github.com/calganaygun/MDcat/blob/31c9a4eb29c53d764b... I kinda agree that they could improve the README to mention use of the GitHub API: A super simple script which uses the GitHub API to convert your markdown files to GitHub styled HTML site. Nice project!
- calganaygun 5y agoSorry, I am updating the description. You are right. I am also adding offline support. Thanks for recommendations.
- JNRowe 5y agoIck, my bad. My toplevel comment could - and should - have been far more constructive. The updated tagline in the repo is a big improvement, good work!
- encryptluks2 5y agoWith GPU terminal emulators... I would like to see the ability to actually render a Markdown document in the terminal. Does anything like this exist yet?
- ebfe1 5y agoNot sure what you meant with gpu terminal emulator but i use consolemd https://github.com/kneufeld/consolemd https://github.com/kneufeld/consolemd to render markdown for terminal and it works really well.. i even built my cheatsheet site with it using simple bashscript (eg: curl https://ch.ebfe.pw/nix/xargs https://ch.ebfe.pw/nix/xargs)
- sjmulder 5y ago> With GPU terminal emulators It seems like something like inline postscript rendering makes sense for things in a terminal - it's text, vector based, versatile. Then Markdown or man/mdoc are easily rendered.
- hashworks 5y agoNot to be confused with actual `cat for markdown` https://github.com/lunaryorn/mdcat https://github.com/lunaryorn/mdcat
- stonepresto 5y agoI like it, simple solution. I wanted to do stuff locally for a project I’m working on, so I built an MD lexer and HTML parser. The downside is I have to implement everything manually, but the upside is I have atomic control over every token, and writing parsers for another markup language is simple. https://github.com/stonepresto/atomd https://github.com/stonepresto/atomd
- tyingq 5y agoThere's also grip, which works similarly. Maybe some ideas you could implement from there. For example, it supports using your own GitHub credentials. https://github.com/joeyespo/grip https://github.com/joeyespo/grip
- dreamcompiler 5y agoAnd then there's this: https://gist.github.com/evertton/4133083 https://gist.github.com/evertton/4133083
- PostThisTooFast 5y agoFunny how Markdown is everywhere, but good luck trying to find a reader that interprets it. WTF. "You're posting too fast. Please slow down. Thanks." And you're assholes who steal from users. Please fuck yourselves. Thanks.
